Biography I was a Life Scout back when the country celebrated it's BiCentenial. I served as a US Marine for 20 years, retiring as a Gunnery Sergeant. I have been active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts for over 8 years now and truly love it. I look forward to meeting you and helping you on your Eagle trail - wherever it may take you.
Why I am qualified to teach
Citizenship in the Community*

Qualifications... I am a citizen. I am an active member of my country, state, community, and church and I have been for a very long time. I find it rewarding and believe that it is my responsibility to teach others of this gift that gives back so much.

This is a fun badge and very straight forward. I believe in participating within your community - doing whatever it is that is needed and/or you enjoy. We will discuss this and review your workbooks.

Prerequisites for this Activity

In order for you to walk out of the Clinic with your Blue Card completed and signed for Citizenship in the Nation. You must complete the following requirements and bring them with you to class. Otherwise I will sign a partial complete card for you.  I appreciate those that show up with a completed Meritbadge worksheet. It shows initiative and leadership - the Scouts that show up with a completed workbook, always leave with a signed blue card. The following requirements are more than just answering a question in your workbook. Please ensure you have done the actions and noted them in your book – we will discuss them in the class.

Requirement 3 – This is the town council or equivalent meeting.  PTA meetings, neighborhood Homeowner Association meetings, County School Board meetings are all acceptable. Pages 23 – 25 of the Merit Badge book discuss this.

Requirement 5 – This is the : watch a movie that shows how the actions of one individual or group of individuals can have a positive effect on a community.”

Requirement 7 – This is the “choose a charitable organization” and find out more about it, contact them and discuss what they do and then work at least eight hours with them while working on the Merit Badge.  Pages 31 – 33 in the Merit Badge book discuss this. Pick something that interests you. Your church might have a food pantry that helps the needy. Your school or a home in your community may need work.

Requirement 8 – Develop a public presentation (such as a video, slide show, speech, digital presentation, or photo exhibit) about important and unique aspects of your community. Pick anything that makes your community interesting. Why do people visit, where do they congregate? Stage your presentation in front of me or your patrol or your class. Pages 35 – 38 of the Merit Badge book discuss this.
